Maggie Toso-Leake

Yoga Teacher, Long Beach

My journey with Bikram Yoga is not so much about “obstacles” as it is about “Doors Opening.”

Approaching retirement from a rewarding 25 year practice in Bachelor of Science Nursing revealed a new path in The Healing Arts. Yoga had been of interest to me for about decade and it was time to tune into yoga as medicine.

The design of Bikram’s sequence of postures, the predictable wording of the dialogue, and the teacher training were all a perfect fit. My connection to the yoga and subsequently training took me on the journey of self-realization and I am so happy to continue to lead my students along this path as well.

How I teach is to observe, and then recognize and suggest what is of benefit to them and what is not. The observance of the specifics of each posture, to the most incremental of detail, offers the most beneficial outcome. An example of this would be saying the words “Gently slowly.” Something as minute and detailed as teaching this can assist in preventing injury.

The best part? They always to get to make the choice!

It is my greatest joy and honor to guide you on your journey.

Yoga is your Teacher.

The rest is up to you
